Farrier Made It!!!

As you can see, I have a "team" for my horse. Amateur requirement I'm afraid! Chester stands very well for the farrier and I'm proud of his patience. The farrier's name is Steve and he's just priceless. For one, he'll do Arabians, and he's got experience enough to handle anything those sneaky two year olds can throw at 'em! Steve was patient enough at the last appointment to go through anatomy and various things that can go wrong. This time, he was patient enough to let me take pics. Dian is patient enough to hold my horse each time!

The "team" hard at work.
Front hooves before. Steve mentioned X, Y, Z views but I'm not that talented as a photographer.

Gettin the "trim"

A little filing.

Hoof in the stand.

And wala! Well done Steve!

Workin the rear.

Chester's kissin on the front end.

More filing!

All four done and balanced!

Tez with his team.

Sammy says he is not so sure about this, but he sure looks handsome!
Steve has a facebook page somewhere and he chronicles his "fixes" (from what I understand).
This was Chester and Tez's last trim before the show and it's exceptional work. Prize and Garry got shoes, but I had to head home, maybe next time....
Thanks for letting me borrow your camera D!

At least it's not glue.

I don't like bugs. In particular, I don't like bugs that can bite me. I am scared of them, the creepy crawlies. When Random and I first got married, he would come home to find cups upside down in various places throughout the house - usually with a spider, cricket, or another shameless intruder underneath. Lately, wasps are target and my efforts are becoming more and more violent. Like last summer for instance, a band of hornets set their sights on my garden. Or rather, the rail road ties around my garden. They bit my daughter and basically caused a nuisance. War began. Hubby went to the store and bought various products that seemed to slow them down, but not eradicate the beasts. Weeellll, I had a few to many daiquiris one Friday night (one to be exact) and I decided that the only way was to burn the little shits out of my garden. Burn them I did! As a ten foot flame rose into the heavens and I stood by smugly, he ran for the garden hose screaming "It's too close to the house!" JEEZZ babe, I said, calm down. He practically yells that it gonna burn the house down and what the hell was I thinking!? The wasps never returned...until this summer. Quite a few times one has managed to fly into the house and terrorize me and my magazines. Hubby went and got more useless spray for the patio and keeps it right beside the door (in the garage) in case of a wasp in the house emergency. Last week, a really BIG one got in the house. I was alone. Just me and the intruder. I open the garage door only to find GASP - NO WASP SPRAY! OMG what am I going to do? As panic rises into my throat and threatens to violently spew out of me I spot a can. Spray adhesive, well hell, THIS will kill the little bastard! OH YEAH, instantly he fell and relief flooded through me. Only one problem, the kitchen window suffered a little "spray adhesive" residue and I can't get it off. My amused hubby can't get it off either. So tonight, when I spray the spider in the bathroom with apple scented detangler and begged him to come remove the body his only statement was "At least it's not glue."

It just figures...

So, Friday morning I get home to a sick kid. Saturday morning equals two more sick ones...Sunday morning is a sick momma. Numerous trips to the pharmacy for the kids and they were well enough to head off to school Tues morning. Not mom, she called in sick to work (two days in a row-on a holiday weekend) and drug ass (up till now). Today, I decided that since I'm heading off to work tonight and Walgreens is open till ten, that I'll just wait and run by about nine and pic up my script (took my last one about seven this evening). Well, walgreens shut down their cash registers early-forty five minutes early to be exact and no amount of begging or bitchin at the manager would convince them to turn it back on. Great, now I'm stuck at work all night without my med and not one pharmacy in town opens again till eight in the morning. The manager did offer it for FREE if I could just come back about 8am tomorrow-its four friggin dollars. Now, that brings me to another point. For all the wonderful things Bartlesville offers our family, there is not one 24 hour pharmacy in this whole stinkin town. We could really get started on the other two pharmacies I've tried in town, but I'll spare those stories for now...I would suggest if you're a family and looking into moving that a 24 hour pharmacy should be a top two priority.
Enough about pharmacies! I did manage to work Chester some the past few days, and he got a nice bath. Hubby helped with the barn again, and it's coming along nicely. Post illness, I plan to pick up my to-do list again and pay attention to it!

Have a great weekend!

Friday off? Well, it was a nice thought anyway. I didn't get Chester time Thursday evening - I crapped out before Friday and vegged on the couch all evening. Way to go. I did stop by to give him his weightbuilder and surprise! Gracie is lame. All the pics I have of her she is pawing at the fence, sometimes she gets her darn foot stuck and goes to yanking - and I bet that's what she's done. I felt sorry for her anyway, she was really hurting so I stayed and petted a while (Chester bit her for stealing my attention). Darn my hide for liking her sooo much : )
Dian's energy wave has officially given out...for the time being. I think she crashed a bit harder than me. Random and Marlin are going to work on the barn again Sunday and I'm going to work horses this weekend (pending kids are all feeling ok). Everyone have a fun safe holiday!

Pics of my day.

Chester lunged well today. We had to work a little longer than usual to work on reverse again. He knows what I want, he knows that I know he knows...But I don't wanna go right. Long story short, we danced. I made all the right moves and he reversed into me and went right.
I've been working on the "off side" as well. I'm positive it will come in handy some day. He will lead from the off side, but he's still a little uncomfortable with it. Truthfully, so am I. It feels wierd.
Swarmed at the waterhole. I loved it.

Random swears he doesn't like horses, but I caught him picking stickers out of Prize's mane.

Patience was really concentrating today. She's doing much better.

Experimenting with camera. Sami on guard.

Tristan and Clay are a little obsessed with monster trucks right now. Couldn't have anything to do with daddy's jacked-up supercharged truck?

Sami and I watched the sunset.

It was so much more beautiful than the pics show.
Can't wait for tomorrow!

Alone time with my Arab.

Chester had a good long grooming today while I chit chatted about inconsiderate people. Obviously, he agrees with me : ) He had a nice well-rounded ten minute round pen workout. Five in each direction. He seems to enjoy it and we're both getting into shape!
Obviously, I only took pics one way. After the round pen workout we did more in-hand, in the round pen and then out. He really is doing so good. I can't give him enough praise. He's such an intelligent and thoughtful being and I can't wait for some good long rides! In the mean time, preparation for the show will do.
Jeez, I couldn't resist this pic. Those silly horses all play in their water so much it just turns to mud. Sometimes they dump it and drag it all over the pen!?

This is one of D's stallion fliers. I really like the pics and basically the whole way it's set up. I'm getting excited about the stallion auction, my mom is going to babysit that whole weekend (wow, hubby time AND horsey time-this is unheard of) Nancy did call to say she'll be in Mexico that weekend. Sigh...and I'm excited just to get a sitter. Life's little pleasures.

Monday : (

Okay, seriously. The weather is really nice, the sun is shining, Patience got her whole outfit (it fits) and I am excited about the show and the trail ride. But, I am tired. I need an entire day off. I am going to take it this Friday. I vow to go nowhere, do nothing, and veg in bed all day long. It's something to keep me going this week because I'm gonna need it! Ugh, never mind, it's only Monday. I'll never make it! I'll peel my pitiful ass off the floor in a few minutes and stumble through the week somehow : )
I have a few goals in mind when I wake up next Saturday morning:
-I'd like to begin lunging Chester at least three days a week.
-Order new surcingle pad and some other lunging equipment.
-Two just because trailer loads per week increasing the distance each time.
-Get my out of shape rear in shape. I think my horse deserves a little less weight from me.
Other things on my list of things to do:
-The stallion auction is the 12th, we need a sitter that weekend. Nancy? Mom?
-Get everyone informed about Patience's birthday party (the weekend before the show)
-Get Patience posting for the walk/trot class.
-Chester needs more in-hand work for his class.
-Garry and I need to get in ride shape.
-Overload complete.
-Boys birthday's in November.
-Thanksgiving: Need new oven, mine is broken.
-Fantastic ten year anniversary plans.
-Christmas presents.
-Oh, I forgot there's something at the school this week too..kids need to get to library, pic up two scripts at pharmacy, go by bank, and I need my polo shirt and pants for the show. *Warning, I've converted my blog to a to-do list*

Great weather all weekend!

So, Dian figured out that I was having horsey-ride withdrawals. Trail rides in abundance this weekend! Seriously, I can hardly walk. It's nice. Before the kids got home on Friday we rode about two hours and then again Sunday morning about two hours.

Soybeans. Lots of Soybeans.

A nice cleansing roll post ride.

Patience rode Friday evening and was tired. The kids and I all went Saturday to work Chester and Tez then Patience rode again and we took pics of Autograph for the stallion auction. Patience got a little worn out, and her asthma started acting up again. She spent the whole day Sunday laying around resting. Sami tried to comfort her. (I think it's working here)

I leave you in "four wheelin heaven" with the super jacked up mud truck. The kids are dwarfed!
